Kiddy Girl? Well, mentally...

I finished Kiddy Girl-and the other day. I hate comparing shows like this to their predecessors because this kind of show is really almost stand alone just set in the same universe. However, this one did have Eclair and Lumiere in it at the end, so...oh, did I forget the other three or four ES pairs?

This time around the ES members are two apprentices who cover as waitresses for the GTO which is the new version of the GOTT. The Nouvlesse, led by a charismatic ability user, are planning a comeback...

I would have liked this show much better if it had not followed Kiddy Grade (which I am proud to say adorns a covetted place on my anime shelf) making it seem that the juvenile title is a perfect fit. Even given the opportunity to be a coming of age story, it failed to develop any of the chara to the extend of intellectual stimulation for the viewer.

Mind you, the story was great, the potential for magnifcence was there, it just was not followed through on.

I enjoyed it for what it was and the antics of Ascour and Di-air kept me entertained, so i'll give it a 6.2 on the Z-scale...

I recently finished an anime about aliens. Tanpopo is a loli Manager for a minor toy company who comes to Earth to find a tester for a power suit the Galaxy Police commisioned for. Her rival is another poser suit developed by the Emerald Company. An unemployed student reluctantly takes the job and becomes Dokkoida.

I really loved the hilarity of all the heros and villians living under one roof without knowing who's who. The aliens throughout the galaxy were portrayed very oddly, especially the chief and Tanpopo's boss. Gags and goofiness abound in this satirical parody of superhero anime. The plot was solid and animated decently.

I was more annoyed than enamored by the Dokkoida power suit.

I enjoyed the catch OP, but the ED was lacking substance. Overall I give this one a 7.1 on the Z-scale.

The Wallflower...

I got this one from the library. I was hesitant because of all the bishonen in it but glad that I did go ahead and watch it.

The Wallflower is about a group of feeloaders who are given the task of making Sunako Nakahara into a lady or be forced to pay rent for the luxurious mansion they live in. Unfortunately for them Sunako is rather an introverted horror otaku...

This anime was pretty hilarious. The use of sight gags and chibi chara was great. I enjoyed the OP song but didn't care for either of the EDs.

What I didn't like was the excessive use of blank chara and some lack of background detail.

Overall I'll give it a 7.0 on the Z-scale...

Rizelmine

I finished this anime yesterday.

Rizelmine is an android who's development is stuck at the 12 year old stage. Her handlers set her up with middle schoolers Iwaki who is more into older girls. Hilarity ensues as Iwaki-kun fights off the romantic advances of Rizel.

This is a very funny comedy anime although it's a little older. It got a little ecchi toward the end which is a bonus for me, but that didn't detract from the warmness and romance.

Overall it was a great show and a bonus for the loli fan! The music was ok; I would say that the second ED was better than the first.

I'll give it an 8.9 on the Z-scale.

Tatakau Shisho - The Book of Bantorra

I won't even try to tell you I understood everything that went on in this anime. I think if you go to college you should make your Professor watch it and explain it to you!

Book is about a world where when someone dies their life history is contained in a stone tablet or "book" as it is called. Armed Librarians collect the books and police trade in them while battling the rebelious Church. There is more to this world and others than what appears on the surface...

I finished this and am not even sure who are left alive at the end excluding the obvious. There was little to no fanservice despite the over endowment of the Acting Director, so that did not detrct from the story. The chara were cool, each with a special ability, at least before they were killed off, as many were.

Although a bit confusing, I thuroughly enjoyed this anime. The music was decent too.

I'll give it an 8.5 on the Z-scale.

Now go watxh anime!

Handsome no Kanojo OVA

In my cheesy quest to finish 500 anime titles by summer, I have decided to take the quick route and throw in a bunch of movies and OVA titles to get there quicker...

One such title I watched was the one episode OVA Handsome no Kanojo. It's from the 80's and was pretty bland. It seems that this one was one of those titles thrown together to promote the manga it's based on.

A High School girl, who is an aspiring actress is given a sharp critique by a College cinema student who decides she is the perfect actress for his movie. Naturally they fall in love at the end.

I'll give it a 6.0 on the Z-scale.

I found this article due to a recent sentencing handed down to an Iowa man for receiving lolicon mang in the mail. What's next simply having such art on your computer? I do not believe possesion of such materiel puts one on the path to victimizing children anymore than watching Saw causes someone to kidnap and murder people...

On my days off I drop both my kids at their bus stops. I had dug out an old CD of anime songs I had made years ago and the OP for Sailor Moon came on. My oldest daughter, now 14, just started singing it off the fly! She said she remembers singing it all the time when she was little! Sailor Moon was the first anime that we both watched and I attribute it to being the one that started my addiction...

It could be magic

Sora no Otoshimono - this is about a happy-go-lucky guy who only wants peace and quite in his life and maybe a few ecchi videos to watch. An Angeloid falls down from the sky and makes his life far less that peaceful...

This is the epitomy of ecchi comedy. From magic cards that grant wishes to flying pantsu (even exploding ones!) this had me laughing my ass off on many occasions! This anime does justice to the genre (is there even an ecchi comedy genre!?) with a unique flare.

There is a serious side to the story as well. The place where the Angeloids come from is run by beings that are evil and ruthless. They want their wayward Angeloids destroyed.

Pros: the chara are done well and there are some very good fight scenes as well as the great comedy.

Cons: there are annoying intros by the superbrain character. The Angeloid Nymph seems to be the only chara that we get decent background information on.

SnO gets an 8.0 on the Z-scale...

Not cats and dogs

Pet Shop of Horrors is a four part OVA about an eccentric Chinese Count (Count D) who runs a very rare pet shop. People who purchase pets from him always tend to end up in trouble! A local cop suspects drug dealing and does his best to get into Count D’s business.

Pros: The stories were interesting enough. I liked the one about the Presidential aspirant the best.

Cons: Count D was just a bit too effeminate for me. It was really bizarre how the chara could imagine their pets to be something they weren’t.

Although it’s old it was still worth watching…I’ll give it a Z-scale 6.1…

From the city at the edge of nowhere

I finished the second season of Black Lagoon (the Second Barrage)...

if you could get into your mind the most screwed up South Asian city and added the greatest hodge-podge of criminal chara you can imagine, that would resemble Rhoanapour. This city is the home of the Lagoon Company, an eclectic group of criminals who do all sorts of jobs if the price is right. They have one awesome tricked out PT boat. In the first season a nondescript Japanese businessman is abandoned by his company and reluctantly joins the Lagoon Company.

The second season has all the rudeness and violence of the first, but with new faces and better story arcs, it is an improvement on the first.

Pros: No holds barred violence mixed with human nature at it's lowest makes for some gritty entertainment. There is more focus on Revy in this season as well. The same haunting ED is used in this season too.

Cons: There were some really screwy chara in this one that we didn't get enough background on for the roles that they were given.

On the Z-scale, this one gets an overall 8.9!

I mostly watched the English dub which was pretty damn well done; rare for a dub.

There is an OVA coming out sometime this year which I am seriously pining for...

Go check out Black Lagoon on DVD!

When a girl loves a girl...

Sasameki Koto - I know what you are thinking...Yes it's a girl's love (yuri) anime, but it was the funniest damn girl's love anime I've ever seen! Kazuma is a demure yet perky girl who just falls in love with girls. Sumi is her best friend and, unbeknownst to Kazuma, is in love with her. Unrequited love spurs much comedy in this as well as the yuri couple who wants to start a girl’s club and the boy who has a crush on Sumi that was conned into modeling (as a girl!) by his imouto (little sister)!

Pros: It was pretty darned funny! Sumi’s home life at a dojo, Kazuma’s brother’s work as an author (with a female pen name), and Aoi-san’s budding talent as an author as well (Kazuma’s brother is her idol; she has no idea he’s a guy!) – All these and more lend to the comedy with a little drama thrown in to flesh this anime out.

Cons: I understand why it ended the way it did, but I don’t have to like it…

Overall I will give it an 8.9 on the Z-scale…

Finished Anime...

These are all from the 2009 Fall Season...

Nyan Koi! – I really enjoyed this one probably because the chara were so cool and it has a lot of cats in it! The main chara is allergic to cats but his family insists on keeping one since he was a kid (it’s fat and black!). One day he has the misfortune of knocking off the head of the neighborhood temple’s cat jizou (a minor god) which curses him to do good deeds for cats or be turned into one (that would be fatal to him!). Various females also vie for his attention in typical harem style.

Pros: It has cats! The animation is top notch. It has cats! The story plot and individual side plots all fit well together were funny and interesting. And it has cats!

Cons: It was typical of a lot of harem stories, although still funny as hell…

I will give this one a 7.8 on the Z-scale.

11eyes – Man this was trippy! In short a group of high school kids are pulled into an alternate world intermittently and must fight for their lives against the Black Knights. There is far more to this than that, but I don’t want to give anything away…

Pros: This anime had some awesome battles and decent plot twists (but no cats :( ). There was even a love scene O_O!

Cons: The plot was a little too strange and there were some gruesome deaths with too much focus on the dying charas. The very very end was just too convenient, but I don’t want to give anything away. I will say that there was one of those long speeches in the middle of a battle that are so annoying…

I will give this a 6.5 on the Z-scale.

The Sacred Blacksmith – A fantasy anime where a female knight strives to defend her beloved city with the help of her friends, a demon sword, a blacksmith, and his loli assistant.

Pros: There were some pretty good side plots and the main plot was decent. I enjoyed it for the most part especially the fights which were rare.

Cons: The plot was vague and unresolved in the end and again there was one of those annoying speeches in the middle of a battle…

I’ll give this one a 6.7 on the Z-scale.

Go on...go watch some anime!

OK, I mentioned the anime rating system I use which was developed by a friend and revised by me to include equivilent Anime News Network ratings. Here is is...

Z-scale for rating anime

I will here place the numbers and reasoning from Z for Z’s rating scale (the Z-scale!) and where the ANN ratings correspond (in bold; note: ANN ratings fall between the corresponding number range). Note that it goes from 0-10 vice 1-10 so that 5 will be the absolute average.

WORST EVER
0 – Obviously an absolutely terrible abortion of an anime.
AWEFUL
1 - Horrible anime in almost every way.
BAD
2 – Just plain bad. Boring, horrible story, ugly animation.
WEAK
3 – Bad. An anime you would wish to skip.
NOT REALLY GOOD
4 – Disliked. Not all that bad, but it had more things to dislike about it than it had things to like.
SO-SO
5 – Neutral; didn’t like or dislike it.
DECENT
6 – Not bad. More things found to be enjoyable than not.
GOOD
7 – Good anime. Interesting during most of the anime and you are happy that you watched it.
VERY GOOD
8 – A pretty good anime. It was enjoyable in pretty much every way.
EXCELLENT
9 – Great anime. It kept you excited the entire time, and you loved it.
MASTERPIECE
10 – Absolutely amazing and pretty much flawless. It was enjoyable in every way possible.

I'll start something new (well it's not really new because I tried this before) by doing short reviews of anime that I've finished watching. I'll probably post an explaination of the rating system I use in a later post...

So the first one I will do is Kampher - this anime was basically a no holds barred fanservice joyride. A guy wakes up to find a strange talking stuffed animal with it's intestines hanging out in his room and the fact that he has changed into a girl! The animal explains that he has been chosen to be a Kampher; a warrior who has to fight other Kamphers. Unfortunately for him, Kamphers can only be female. The majority of the anime is basically harem stuff and battles while the girls try to fathom the true purpose of Kamphers. The last episode was an extra semi-Christmas special where the dolls switch places with the girls and learn what it's like to be alive.

Pros: The story was really pretty interesting and the fanservice wasn't the in-your-face type like you find in shows like Queen's Blade.

Cons: The last few episodes were just lame and the story didn't end well. The extra ep was just so much fluff...

I'm rating this a 6.5 on the Z-scale (just what the Z-scale is will come later)

Yes, another monthly post!

This time I will quickly review the anime Samurai 7 which I recently finished (in a rush since I have to get it back to the Library for the other 10 people waiting for it!)...

I saw Kurosawa's Seven Samurai quite a while ago, but there were parts in this anime that gave me a feeling that they came straight out of that movie. There are only vague similarities though. Samurai 7 is set on some other futuristic world where the system of social order has become similar to fuedal Japan. The premise is the same as the movie though; seven samurai are hired to defend a village from bandits. It went well beyond that though.

Pros:
If I was going to recommend any action anime to a non-anime watcher it would be this one hands down. There is a great deal of well coreographed fight scenes as well as much to do about bushido code and such. It has just the right amount of comedy to offset some of the graver material within. The mix of CG and animation is awesome. The designs of environment as well as tech stuff is pretty cool.
The chara are fleshed out pretty well.

Cons: Not many.
I would haved liked a different ending, but this being a samurai series, it required a samurai ending to it.
I was not happy with quite a few of the non-main chara designs. Heads and facial features were rather obnoxious on some of them.

I would definately recommend this to anyone! I rated it a Masterpiece on ANN...

So, here I am again. It's only been two months this time! My goodness, I see that there's been at least a bit of activity with 7400+ views...it's motivating!

So I'll do what comes natural and update my Top Ten lists on the sidebar...

Toradora!, Kemeko DX, To Aru Majutsu no Index, Kannagi, and Hyakko .

In the Top Ten I've Seen list I added Outlaw Star (see description in this post) which I rated a Masterpiece on ANN! It's awesome old school sci-fi with a bit of mysticism...

Since I'm getting more hits here than I expected, I'll be sure to come back soon with some more updates!

Older anime...

Outlaw Star - I got the first two DVDs from the Library. That’s up to episode 9. I have to say that for an older series, it’s pretty good. These two partners (the main chara and a kid) in a do-it-all business are hired by an outlaw in disguise to be her bodyguards. They fight off pirates until she reaches a secluded warehouse where she attempts to double cross them. Failing in that she tskes them with her and her prize; an android girl that was in a case at the warehouse. It seems the android is the key to a new and powerful ship. Tracked by pirates they find the ship and due to an unexpected plot twist, the main chara becomes owner of the ship he dubs the Outlaw Star…

The thing that got me really interested in this series is that the weapons used by all are pretty cool and the minor details that really good science fiction has, the sequences for take off, having to have a ship registered and pay for port fees, ship maintenance, and properly stowing gear, etc. That kind of stuff makes it much more interesting.

A detractor is that annoying shot sequence whenever a new scene or the cut screen initiates. It’s obnoxious!

Overall I’m ready to watch more to see where this adventure takes the two (well four with the girl and the ships AI; oh, yeah, there’s five with the samurai lady…).

Nogizawa Haruka no Himitsu - At first I thought this was just another fanservice anime, but, man, it's really cool! This somewhat ditzy but altoghether gifted young HS girl has a secret; she's an otaku! Yuuta (who seems to live with his Onee-san and a teacher; both alcoholics...) finds out but instead of rejecting her as most others would, he respects her hobby and befriends her. There is a great deal of comedy as Yuuta gets dragged along into her world while they attempt to keep it a secret from the rest of thier school...The fanservicy at home moments at Yuuta's house aren't played out too much. as a bonus she has an adorable 14 year old (although she looks more like a Japanese 12!) who's a bit craftier than Haruka and wears shimapan! Check this one out; I'm on ep 3. Subbed by BakaWolf-m.3.3.w...

I want to post something but since I spend quite a lot of my free time watching anime, I might as well post what I've been up to...

Recently I watched eps 23 - 30 of Armored Trooper Votoms. It's about a natural born soldier who is infatuated by a vision of a beautiful geneticly engineered PS (Perfect Soldier). The series revoles around his search for her and the mechanations and politics behind his universe. Chirico Cuvie is the man.

I finally found the last of and finished They Are My Noble Masters or Kimi ga Aruji de Shitsugi ga Ore de (Kimiaru). It's about a brother and sister who run away from an abusive father and wind up serving a wealthy family with some very comedic members! I loved it and recommend it for it's awesome comedy...

From the new season I watched the first three eps (that's a rule of mine; I can usually find out if somethings worth watching if the first three eps grab my attention, then the next set of three will clinch it for me :D) of Kyoran Kazoku Nikki. Wow, this is one hyper goddess of a cat-girl! Add a bunch of the most misfit children(?) available and a government employee forced husband to play Daddy and you have one of those outragious comedies that still manages to have a moral thrown in each ep for good measure. I'll be watching this one...

On the docket for the evening...the last four episodes of Basilisk!

I'm going to attempt (like a whole lotta other anime blogs >_<) to write a quick blurb on which anime i happen to watch when I can here on this wayward blog.

First up is a new series for winter 2008, PERSONA ~ trinity soul ~

The first episode was pretty well done. I was a little confused as to the chara relationships at first (and who was the girl in the beginning!?!), but that worked out by the end (except the girl!). I’m concerned by voice(s) I heard of other chara, but I don’t want to spoil any future plot devices. This show is a different twist on the mecha formula, where instead of mobile suits you get into and fight with, these are mobile suits that come out of you!

The style and music were pretty good, although I didn’t like the OP and some rap was used as BMG, but it did have decent accompaniment.

I’m looking forward to more of this anime.

I now can say that I am a sucker for anything Japanese! I have been following releases of a web comic 4koma called Habanero-tan who is a mascot for a rather spicy snack chippy ring thingy. The whole thing is super-cute and sometimes a bit risque. Here's the latest sequence of translated 4koma:

That powdered red pepper stuff that she accidentally dumped on her udon is shichimi. It consists of red pepper, roasted orange peel, yellow sesame seed, black sesame seed, Japanese pepper, seaweed, and ginger.

I just had to have some! Lucky for me, we have several asian markets around here and I happened upon it at one. So now I have shichimi on my Cup Noodles whenever I enjoy that wonderful soup. I always make sure the cap is on tight thought...

More finished anime!

I completed watching more anime this week.

First of all we have Pani Poni Dash! which I have on DVD. It was a riot! Stark comedy set in a whirlwind style revolving around an 11 year old MIT graduate that comes to teach high school in Japan. Oh, and she's being watched by aliens.

My favorite character from the show was definately Himeko! She was just the type of person I probably would have been in high school if I was Japanese, a girl, and in an anime...

I rated it excellent on ANN.

Next I finished Nanatsuiro Drops which is about a guy who falls for a girl who happens to become a magical girl in order to help a talking sheep doll return home to doll land. Oh, but the guy is the doll; he turns into the doll when the sun sets, but he can't tell the girl that...

It's a wonderfully romantic Maho Shoujo title with a great deal of comedy and life lessons. Get your tissues ready though...

I rated it excellent on ANN.

Lastly, I finished Gakuen Utopia Minabi Straight! which is about an overzealous high school girl and how she changes the lives of several classmates (if not the whole school!). This show has a bit of it comedy, drama, life lessons, and rock and roll too at the end. My only detractor was the chara design; I mean these girls are supposed to be 16+ years old! It was enjoyable none the less.

I rated this excellent on ANN as well.

Wow, has it been a month already? Where does the time go...well at an average of 24 mins each episode, to anime of course!

I've finished the following in the past month...

Code E - A girl moves to a new town and is discovered to have an effect on electronics by a genius recluse at school. He propsitions her to study her body and the antics begin. The girl who has been watching over the guy is involved and you have a nice sci-fi romantic comedy. I rated it excellent on ANN.

Doujin Work - After recently achieving adulthood our heroine dives head first into the word of doijin work; i.e. drawing erotic comics. This was a great comedy close dear to my heart; I love all anime related to otakuness!! I rated this excellent on ANN.

Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho - A new student comes to Umisho; on a raft all the way from Okinawa! SHe is seen to swim like a fish and is recruited for the swim team. It seems that the manager has met her somewhere before... I loved this show, for the comedy and fanservice, which I'm sure will be more evident in the DVD release. I rated this excellent on ANN.

Lucky Star - This show is pretty much a study of just what a bunch of high school girls are into and talk about and oh, it's hilarious! Especially when you throw in Konata and her otaku family! I rated thsi excellent on ANN. It's seems that now it has been licensed by Bandai Ent, so I'm anticipating the DVDs!

Lovely Complex - Imagine the tallest girl in school and the shortest boy in school slowly getting a groove for each other. Let the comedy ensue!! This anime has it all, comedy, romance, drama (well a little) and it's just plain funny! I rated this a masterpiece on ANN (yes, I really did!)

Shonen explosion!

I finished three shonen series this week and I have to let you know about them.

Claymore - What better premise can you have for cool chicks battling demons than having the chicks be half-demon tsudere hotties? Clair is a Claymore, which are for the most part half-human, half Yoma (demonlike monsters) women who's sole task in life is to eradicate the Yoma. Clair however became a Claymore for revenge against the "Awakened Being" (a former Claymore that went past her power limits to become basically a Super-Yoma!) who killed her only reason for living, Teresa of the Faint Smile, a Claymore gone rogue who befriended Clair. Clair isn't half and half; she took in part of Teresa instead of part of a Yoma.

There is much battle and character developement with each episode ending on a cliff, keeping you on edge until the next. I won't spoil it anymore, but the ending wraps of some of the story while leaving a great deal of room for another season!!

I rated this one excellent on ANN.

Murder Princess - A Princess escapes when the royal scientist initiates a coup. Whe she is chased by a monster in the forest, she's saved by a tsudere bounty hunter and somehow the two end up swapping bodies! It's now up to the bounty hunter to save the kingdom as the Murder Princess". There is a good amount of fighting in this anime and it's surprising how our princess can move so quickly in that dress! It's a six episode OVA and well worth the viewing. I rated it excellent on ANN as well.

Coyote Ragtime Show - It took me a while to get back to this show, but I wanted to finish it. It was well worth my time (and the price of waiting and purchasing the DVDs). Mister breaks out of jail with only ten days left on his sentence to pursue a treasure left behind by his dead partner in crime (who also left him a daughter to care for). Galactic political moves make finding the treasure all the more urgent as the planet where it's supposed to be is on a countdown to destruction.

This show has shonen written all over it from the awesome aierial battles to the cocky characters, including the detective duo after Mister's tail. My favorites have to be the 12 sisters, each named after a month of the year (my personal favorite being April!).

I rated this an excellent on ANN also.

Go on, get that anime; you know you want to! ;D

He Is My Master - 300th title I've seen!

I wanted to set my 300th anime title viewed (this of course discounts the 100+ hentai titles...) with an anime that I had left fallen by the wayside (really I was just saving it for a better time) He Is My Master.

I was quite fond of this title because the main male character is all I would want to be if I was still young and single... Anyway, this anime is full of gags and quite hilarious if you take it all in, especially the fanservice! Pochi is the consumate pet; I mean who wouldn't want a lovesick galge playing aligator for a pet?!?

I seriously enjoyed Izumi's emotional struggle and the unexpected twist at the end of the show! I recommend this title rated it excellent on ANN.

I finished Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru and I have to say...it took me to places I thought I couldn't fathom. Don't ask me to explain this. I would definately recommend this series; it's been licensed, so it should be out by the end of the year.

This boy must fullfil his grandfather's wish that he attend a prestegeous school; the only catch being that it's an all girl's school. He becomes quite the lady, even gaining the honored title of Elder (hence everyone cslling him "Onee-sama"). It becomes apparent towards the middle of the series that he was being groomed for the place since early childhood; his mother having forbid him a decent haircut.

He does various good deeds which further ingratiate him with the student body, until things come to a head between him/her and the student body president.

I rated this one Excellent on ANN. Check it out!

I bought and watched this some time ago, but thought it needed mentioning here becasue it was quite good! A boy in the future finds a girl from the past who holds the key to change the world from it's current domination by plant life.

The boy must rescue the girl after she is conned by the bad guy into helping him change the world in the wrong sort of way.

I rated it Excellent on ANN. Check it out!

Why did I come by this image? i was looking for Ayumi Hamasaki videos of course! Why is it related to anime (besides having my namesake in the pic)? Ayumi Hamasaki did some anime theme songs and is (IMHO) a diva of the J-Pop scene!! Check her out!

I never thought I would actually ever pick a favorite anime/manga character, but I can without a doubt now say that Ogiue-san from Genshiken is my all time favorite. I mean I really feel for her. I've read all the Genshiken manga that's been released in the states, own the first season of Genshiken (although she only appeared in the ending theme scene, i thought I'd mention it) , and have seen the first two new OVAs. I've never felt for a character this much before. What is it? Is it her Tsudere-ness that gets to me? I just don't know; I just know she's my favorite...

Ouran High Scholl Host Club!

I was determined to finish Ouran High School Host Club since I had all the eps and it was well worth the effort, especially since it played on my DiVX DVD player! Most of the time anime is better viewed on a bigger screen than my laptop!

It's about a high school club at an ultra-rich school where male students entertain female students for fun and profit. Except the newest member is an exceptional but somewhat clumsy female who has little money but got enrolled somehow, only to break a vase in the clubs mysterious location, the third music room. This gets her sequestered to the club to be an imitation boy until her debt is paid off.

This show deftly uses alot of site gags and background effects you normally see in shoujo manga. The comedy and story line are constant throughout the entire series and the animation is top-notch. I rated this show a Masterpiece on ANN and it really does deserve it!

I've been trying to catch up with what I still have to watch, then another slue of shows pops out!!

I'm currently catching fansubs of the following, the most of which look promising...

Lucky Star - general mayhem revolving around an otaku girl and her friends...

Claymore - a half-demon demon hunter takes in an orphaned boy and struggles with her human side while...well, just doing her job...

Ikki Tousen Dragon Destiny - The battle continues with competing high schools out to rule the Kanto plain...with increased fanservice an extra!

Nagasarete Airantou - a runaway stows aboard a ship and is lost at sea, until he is rescued by a girl and is stuck on an island populated only by women. Sound like a dream come true? Not if they are all out to get you for themselves and they happen to be ninjas! This guy is getting far more pain than pleasure, I'm sure...

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - a boy stuck in an underground village makes an amazing discovery...let the mayhem ensue!

Other new shows which I haven't finished giving the three ep test to yet are, Bokurano, Darker than Black, Hayate no Gotoku!, Hitohira, IdolMaster Xenoglossia, Juusoukikou Dancouga Nova, Toward the Terra, Romeo X Juliet, Lovely Complex, Reideen, Moonlight Mile, Koutetsu Sangokushi, Shining Tears X Wind, Monster Princess, Murder Princess, Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula, Rocket Girls, and Touka Gettan.

This of course is all new to add to the bunch of others I have to watch!

I just finished watching Asatte no Houkou and it was one of the best shows I have seen about everyday things like family, friends, and love. put forth in such an unconventional way!

I have to admit it was definately a tear jerker outing for me. I suppose it comes from loosing so much in life. It is a wonderful story. I rated it excellent on ANN and hope you can check it out as well.

Full Metal Alchemist... 02/14/07

I finished a full viewing of Full Metal Alchemist today and immediately (well after a Valentine's Day dinner with the family) went and bought the DVD for the movie, Conqueror of Shambala. It was outstanding, especially how the events dealing with Edward on Earth flowed with historical events in Weimar Germany. I found myself wanting what happened throughout, however the arrival of one of the humunculi took me by surprise. It was funny how Ed reacted to earthly couterparts of chara that he had dealings with in his own world.

I recommend bothe the TV series and the movie and rated both Excellent on ANN.

I finally got around to finishing this title. Honestly I don't know why I put it off. It may have been in deference to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, but I finished those long ago it seems.

Re: Cutey Honey has our heroine battling her prototype, Sister Jill, and her minions to save the world from Jill's megalomania. There is more than enough fan service to sate even the most jaded otaku. It really does have a great story, really!

Check it out if you can (and can stand a great deal of fan service nudity!); I rated it an "excellent" on ANN.

Hotori - Tada Saiwai wo Koinegau 1/31/07

I had to mention this title here. I hadn't cried while watching anime in a long time, so I wanted to get around to watching this one. It was lighthearted in a way, but realistic (as realistic as Sci-Fi can get), but it struck me in the middle of it and pulled on my heart-strings.

A boy robot is being given artificial memories to replace a couples lost child. He befriends a human girl who is his opposite; she is losing her prescious memories as the day go by.

I recommend this highly and rated it a masterpeice on ANN.

I've been catching up with the ANN anime forum lately. They have changed a bit from when I was last there (probably July?) and the rules have gotten a little stricter. They did have alot of newby posters that don't bother with rules over spring break and the summer, so it's understandable.

There are awesome hidden links to voice actor polls on the ASOS Brigade site! So far you can vote your choice for the english VA's for Mikuru and Yuki! If the studio goes with the winners of the polls, it will be a great service of and for the fans!

I finished Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars on Select On Demand recently. It was a decent title and had a decent story, but may turn out boring for some. I enjoyed all the Japanese cultural references in it and how the students coelesced in seemless unity. I rated it "very good" on ANN.

I'm upset with Comcast, my local cable company. I had been watching Anime Network On Demand freebees for quite a while, then the link on the menu disapeared from the first page of the menu. I am partially to blame because i assumed, since it had disappeared before that it was gone again, but it had only been pushed down the emnu to the second page! Why couldn't they keep it in alphabetical order!?! I missed the forth episodes to two very good series; Jinki: Extend and Comic Party Revolution. If i had missed them on Adult Swim or regular TV, I would just dowload a fansub ep, but it is against my principles to steal from commercial free programming sources...

Welcome to the NHK... 12/25/06

Wow. This series ended at 24 eps, which was just perfect in what they wanted to portray. Welcome to the NHK comes across as an expose on the hikikomori mindset, what it takes to get there and what it takes to get out, with all the mad cap calamity that goes with it; as well as the tragedy. But it's not only the main character Satou who has issues to deal with as each of the supporting characters has his or her own baggage to bear.

It was a roller coaster ride for me as I routed for Satou and Misaki to get their acts together and was often thwarted in what I thought should have been the outcome of each episode. In the end I got what I wanted in a sense in that the lives of these two people remained intertwined as I thought they should be.

I recommend this series and rated it masterpiece on ANN's database.

Man, I have been deep into watching fansubs since I got my new computer! Check out the sidebar for an updated Top Ten although I catch some of them on cable and DVD if available. I had some trouble with my banner here, but I seem to have fixed it. Thanks again to April-chan for making it for me!I have determined that out of the "Giant Robot" genre of anime, I prefer the powered/mobile suit type shows rather than actual giant robots. Maybe I am wrong and should recognize a seperate "Mecha" genre? My most recent triumph has been able to watch Innocent Venus (check out the link for a synopsis!) in it's entirety; it rocks! There was a rather unexpected plot twist as well. Here's a pic of the mecha from that title:

Also notable is the title Super Mobile Legend Dinagiga which was suprisingly good although cut short at only too episodes.

Does anyone know who the did the voice for Hikari Touno? I'm dying to know!!

Oh, and I had considered trying to join animeblogger, but I have to get a bit better at this before getting on that porch...

Two new titles I am watching worth noting are Sumomo mo Momo mo, about an overzealous ninja girl who is dead set on bedding her family's choice of husband. It's hilariously good ninja fun! Also...

Tactical Roar which is about a civilian battleship (not the Nedesico!) crewed entirely by women with a sole male chara that happens to get assigned to do upgrades...yeah. It's got what is expected (FANSERVICE!), but has some really decent battle scenes. The personal stories are great as well, so it's no Gravion type show.

Check them out!

My first manga... 11/08/06

Well, it's not exactly the first manga I have read, but it's the first one that I have been able to complete. What a manga it was! I'm speaking of Othello by Satomi Ikezawa. It's about a high school girl who is rather pensive and gets taken advantage of often. Another version of her appears to save the day with no recollection left to the poor girl. The manga is about self discovery. I definately recommend this!!

This one was a very interesting comedy named Muteki Kanban Musumi (something like Noodle Fighter Miki). Sorry I don't have a pic. It struck me as excellent because of it's use of comedic expressions, poses, and sound so artfully!

And I want that dog!

Adding the next weeks post (10/11/06):

I finished yet another couple of anime and had to quite on one other. It appears that Coyote Ragtime Show has been licensed for the US by ADV films. Although they are my favorite US distributor, I can only hope that they don't sit on the title too long (I haqd but three episodes left to view, and the action was pretty good; the DVDs will let me watch it on my big screens!) I know that titles take time to get english dubbing done and pressed for release, but I can be impatient if I want to. I have heard of some titles that they have sat on for quite some time, but seeing the rate at which they snatched up the license, I can only suspect they will follow through in a timely manner.

Finished on Select on Demand (SoD) was Demon Lord Dante which is one of Go Nagai's numbers. It was an interesting alternative story on what God and Satan could have been. It wasn't half bad and I took it for what it was; fiction, not some reconstruction effort.

Finally, I finished Zero no Tsukaima which was an endearing comedy about a boy who is stolen from earth to be the familiar of a not so gifted noble sorceress. You could tell right from the start that this was a love story, and the only enjoyment was to see just how that story would unfold. Some would like to see a second season, and I admit to that bunch.

I sure ain't. My top series, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is now at an end. It was great while it lasted; it kept me in suspence and waiting patiently for the next episode.

It was innovative in it's use of question and answer archs and the level of mayhem when things picked up were intense.

So, what's next???

Seeing the final episode of Gainax's Diebuster 2 or Top no Nerae 2, or is it? I am so grateful for being able to view it, but I must beg incessently that an American distributer pick it up, PLEASE! I must see this grandure on my big screen! I must!!

On a side-note, there was a seen at the end where the translator labelled the birds in thsi scene, Okinawan! Oh, how I miss that island paradise so...

I was looking for updated anime to watch and stumbled on a rare something. It's an anime done in Flash and only runs 5 mins an episode, but it's a decent five minutes. The title is Hanoka and it's about a war between Humanity and the people from the stars in which an android, Number 7, is reluctantly thrown. Check it out on fansub.
